Open class: Nune Aydinyan and 12th graders
On May 16, the 12th graders
of our High School, led by their English teacher Nune Aydinyan, presented the
second part of their project “Banned Books”. Angelina Hakobyan gave a speech with the
presentation of the book “The Alchemist”. The Alchemist
is
a novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho which was first published in 1988. When I asked why the book was banned, she replied that it
was only banned in Iran, perhaps for religious reasons. Nune Hovhannisyan
presented “The Kite Runner” by Afghan-American writer Khaled Hosseini.
Nare Navasardyan, presented
novel "Lolita". Lolita is a 1955 novel written by
Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov. This was considered to be an
erotic novel. That is why it was banned.
The open class was interesting as it had an interactive
character. I very often stopped the speakers and asked questions, and they
answered all my questions with self-confidence.
