A online discussion with distance learners: Should Smartphones be banned at Schools

Our distance learner Larisa Sirunyan has written a short essay on the topic "Should Smartphones be banned at Schools?"

Smartphones should be everywhere, and everyone should have them if they serve the main purpose. But smartphones can also have disadvantages. They can prevent children from concentrating on their lessons. On the other hand, smartphones can help parents to monitor their children. It seems to me that if a student has nothing to do with the lesson, then the smartphone will become his/her "idle toy". The teacher has the right to prohibit anything that interferes with the lesson. The smartphone is a good thing, but it needs to be moderately and properly used. The smartphone features can be used at the lessons. For example, using a stopwatch during lab work, taking photos or shooting videos of different stages of experiments. The recordings can be slowed down to study them in more details. The addiction of children and adolescents to smartphones needs to be tackled.
